Cold night hoots!

Winter is a great time of year to listen for North America’s top nocturnal predator, the Great Horned Owl. They are quite common in Tallahassee and can often be heard hooting not long after sunset or during the early hours of the day before sun rises. Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park, J. R. Alford Greenway, Elinor Klapp Phipps Park and the Miccosukee Greenway are my go to horned owl hotspots! The one pictured below was sat in a Live Oak in the rec area at Maclay one evening. I often heard and spotted them there on cold winter nights/mornings.
