It doesn’t take much to agitate a House Wren. Your mere presence should be sufficient! When we walk through the flatwoods with our dogs we usually agitate more than a couple. Today, we had three on our walk. They stay hidden for a while but on most occassions they’ll sit up near the top of a small tree or shrub so their scolding chatter fills the forest air. This usually gets a few other species going. Brown-headed Nuthatches, Pine Warblers and a Blue-headed Vireo came to see why the House Wren was agitated on today’s walk. Just my dog, Bane! He’s more interested in sniffing out fence lizards though.
