Recently, I’ve been seeing Limpkins hanging out on the fishing fingers at Lake Lafayette Heritage Trail Park. There were two on fishing finger #3 this evening, one of which was feeding on freshwater mussels. Leon County’s Limpkin population has grown quite considerably since I moved to Tallahassee in 2004. They are a common sight at many of the city’s most popular eBird hotspots. The one pictured below was at Rhoden’s Cove Landing on Lake Jackson.
