White Squirrels!

I took my parents to Lanark Village this afternoon to look for bears. We struck out but, we did see at least 4 ‘white’ Gray Squirrels. White squirrels? Albino ones? Nope, they aren’t albino, they’re white due to genetic mutation. If you look closely, these white squirrels have small patches of gray fur, usually on their heads and/or legs. The one pictured below has gray fur on its crown. There are quite a few white squirrels in Franklin County, Florida. Before today I’d seen them at Bald Point State Park and Ochlockonee River State Park. You can even see them in Tallahassee! On campus at Florida State or at the Tallahassee Museum off Orange Avenue. Cool looking aren’t they?
