Cooper’s Hawk

Most of my Coops encounters are brief. They are quite common in Tallahassee but it’s one of those birds you can never count on seeing. If you have bird feeders, then your yard is almost certainly watched by your neighborhood Cooper’s Hawks. This one (pictured) flew into our yard one evening and sat on a pine limb overlooking the feeders. A Downy Woodpecker and a Northern Cardinal weren’t as impressed as I was. They literally froze to the feeders! The hawk eventually flew off and both the woodpecker and cardinal relaxed LOL.
