Chippies are back!

The Chipping Sparrow is one of the most commonly seen bird species in Tallahassee’s backyards. If you have bird feeders in your yard, then you most likely have this winter visitor coming to them. However, you really don’t need a bird feeder to attract them. Buy white millet and scatter it around a wood pile or on top of a few cut logs. One year, we had over 200 Chippies visiting our yard! My parents had between 50-100 last winter. Sometimes a Dark-eyed Junco or White-throated Sparrow will show up so keep your eyes open.
