You may be surprised to learn that Baltimore Orioles winter in Florida. Lots of them! All you need do to see them, is put out a grape jelly or fruit feeder. Hang it near an evergreen shrub or tree in a quiet corner of your yard that’s easily viewable from a window or porch. Sit back and wait. Some of Tallahassee’s backyard birders see lots of orioles visiting their feeders. We had up to a dozen winter in our yard several years ago! Look carefully, because we do occassionally see Bullock’s Orioles, a rare visitor from the western United States. We’ve had 2 in our yard since we moved into our house 13 years ago and I’ve seen 2 others in Tallahassee and 1 in Gainesville.
