Unlike some birds, this one is perfectly named. I love watching them feed. Their foraging behavior is very similar to that of a nuthatch but more furtive, which makes it a challenge when trying to snap pictures of them. This one, a young male, paused several times and long enough for me to take several pictures. Again, the camera shutter did the trick for this picture. As you can see he paused on an overhead vine and peered down at me. I often wonder what birds and animals make of us photographers. He didn’t gaze at me for long but I was grateful for his moment of curiosity.
