Raptor Migration

Peak raptor migration is almost upon us so, in the next 3 to 4 weeks, look to the skies for soaring hawks, falcons, harriers (pictured) and vultures. Check this website for information on official hawkwatches around the United States. In Florida, coastal hotspots are a great place to look for migrating raptors, especially on a clear day after a cold front has passed through your area. In the Florida Panhandle, I enjoy watching raptor migration from Eagle Harbor at St. Joe Peninsula State Park, and from the marsh overlook at Bald Point State Park. Here in Tallahassee, go to an area that offers large panoramic views of the sky. In the past, I’ve had success at Apalachee Regional Park, J. R. Alford Greenway and the Biltmore Avenue Cow Ponds; all three sites are eBird hotspots.
