Red-shouldered Hawk

Our neighborhood hawks spend a lot of their time hunting for prey at the end of the street. The nearby pond and wet grassy areas attract a whole smorgasbord of grub for them to pounce upon. We spotted this one trying to snag a katydid the other day. The katydid escaped, minus a leg! The hawk flew back up into the oak to wait for another opportunity.
