Wondrous Names!

Hummingbird names really do inspire one’s imagination don’t they? Many of the world’s 300-plus species are called “something” hummingbird; eg Rufous Hummingbird, Volcano Hummingbird, Magnificent Hummingbird. While those particular species do inspire one to wonder, it’s the species that don’t have hummingbird in their full name that fuel my imagination. Spatuletail, hillstar, comet, and hermit. The hummingbird pictured below is a White-throated Mountain Gem. A most wondrous name that describes its appearance and the terrain it frequents.
