Eastern Kingbird

It won’t be long now before our kingbirds head south for the winter. This individual was fly catching along the edge of the big lake at Cascades Park in downtown Tallahassee. By late August it will be well on its way to South America where it will remain until late February. Quite a journey for a bird that weighs no more than a golf ball! As spring beckons the kingbird will leave South America and fly back to Tallahassee arriving sometime in April. Once here it will find a mate, raise a family and then fly all the way back to South America again.
